Japanese Pokémon Booster Packs Set for Another Price Increase in May 2027
A third increase since Scarlet & Violet
Japanese Pokémon Trading Card Game booster packs are scheduled to become more expensive with new sets releasing in May 2027. The suggested retail price will rise from 200 yen to 230 yen per pack, an increase of 30 yen, or 15 percent. The change also affects standard booster boxes containing 30 packs: their price will move from 6,000 yen to 6,900 yen.
As with the previous adjustments, Creatures has cited “rising raw material costs and other factors” as the reason for the increase. The announcement marks the third time pack prices have gone up since the Scarlet & Violet series began, extending a pattern of increases that has made the Japanese product steadily more expensive.
How prices have changed
Before the first adjustment, a Japanese booster pack cost 165 yen during the Sword & Shield era. In January 2023, the price rose to 180 yen, an increase of about 9 percent. The next change took effect in May 2026, lifting the price from 180 yen to 200 yen, or roughly 11 percent.
The May 2027 increase will bring the pack price to 230 yen. Compared with the earlier 165-yen price, that is an increase of 65 yen, or just under 40 percent. For a 30-pack box, the corresponding change is from 4,950 yen at the old pack price to 6,900 yen at the new one, assuming the same pack count and standard pricing.
The timing is also notable: 2027 will be the second consecutive year in which a price increase takes effect in May. The schedule does not, by itself, indicate whether further changes are planned beyond the announced adjustment.
What the announcement means for collectors
Collectors and players buying Japanese products will need to account for the higher suggested prices when planning purchases after the change takes effect. Actual retail prices can differ from suggested retail, and availability, retailer pricing, and demand may also influence what buyers pay. Still, the new list price provides a clear baseline: a 30-pack box will cost 900 yen more than it does under the current 6,000-yen price.
The increases also offer useful context when comparing Japanese releases across different eras. A pack that cost 165 yen during Sword & Shield will be priced at 230 yen for qualifying releases in May 2027 and afterward. The percentage change is substantial, even though each individual adjustment has been introduced in stages.
Will international prices change too?
It remains unclear whether The Pokémon Company International will make a similar change to products in its markets. Japanese and international Pokémon TCG products do not necessarily share the same production arrangements: TPCi uses different factories and supply chains. As a result, the Japanese announcement alone does not confirm that prices elsewhere will rise.
For now, the confirmed change applies to Japanese booster packs from new sets releasing in May 2027. Buyers outside Japan will need to wait for any separate announcement from TPCi or regional distributors before drawing conclusions about local prices.
