Cards Of The Week #9

Negative Hollow (OP06-097)

I have a soft spot for this card since it is a complete recreation of Ghost Touch from Duel Masters. Perhaps 99% of you reading this don't have a clue of what I'm talking about but those that do I'm sure they understand. Regardless, this card was just alright when it first came out in OP06 and at our current game it's a really bad call to run it. I'm sorry but it's that weak now.

The reason is simple; so many leaders and cards enable you to grab more cards whether from straight draw, searching from the deck or even recovering them from the trash. In predictable fashion, the future of One Piece was going to be just like most other card games: Based on card advantage more and more. As SNK used to say "The Future is Now".

By playing Negative Hollow, you're essentially stripping 1 card from your opponent's hand and losing one of your own by playing this card. But, you're also spending 2 DON!! It's rare that you're going to hit a card so absolutely important that it can change the game from night to day. At least a character removal event will get rid of something that your opponent also paid DON!! to play.

It isn't completely worthless though. You can also gain the full effect as a trigger and against some kind of rush deck or deck that somehow doesn't generate many cards even in this day and age, it might be alright. But, this is me trying to be kind. The card has potential to be better if it could be combined with other cards that will take cards from your opponent's hand or with cards that would give you an additional effect by doing so.

Lightning Dragon (OP15-077)

The complete opposite of Negative Hollow, Lightning Dragon is a very powerful event and a card you can splash in many purple decks easily. OP15 had a number of these types of lightning attacks from Enel as events and required your leader to be Enel to get the most out of them. This makes this card stand out as it doesn't have that limitation and it's also really good to boot.

At 0 cost to play this event will basically work as playing a spell card in yugioh. You do have to go -1 DON!! so it's technically not fully free, but tinkering with DON!! numbers is standard practice for most purple decks. You can freeze a rested character with 6000 power or less so it can act as a mini stall card. However, that is only the surface benefit. Since you also draw 1 card when you play it it's a borderline free character stun while doubling as a draw card for deck thinning and consistency. So darn good. Not to mention that if you have methods to weaken character power then you could even stun much stronger characters too.

It's a good thing it doesn't have a trigger effect too because it's already so good. Got nothing else to add. If you're playing a purple deck this is very likely a staple card for you in some kind of number.
