Cards Of The Week #6
Three Worlds Ragnaraku (EB01-039)
I decided it was about time I talked about some events, since before now I've only been reviewing character cards. What you're looking at here is an objectivley worse version Red Roc, the excellent blue event that could easily deal with the biggest characters. It also has such a long ass name that I didn't even bother to write the whole thing in the title of this card review. I'd rather the title doesn't take up 3 rows thank you very much.
The reason why this card is worse than Red Roc is while it actually costs 1 less DON!! it also has an annoying minus 1 DON!!; a typical curse for it being a purple card even though most of these minus DON!! drawbacks have always gone overboard on cards if you ask me. Red Roc doesn't have a KO range so you could remove 10 cost characters and even random characters that could buff their cost even beyond that. For this card though, you're stuck at 8 cost max which is still solid but certainly weaker than Red Roc. Not only that, but Red Roc puts the target back in the deck playing around a lot of On KO effects or KO protection effects.
The trigger effect can also be hit or miss depending on when your opponent hits it so I can't say it gives this card any edge over Red Roc once again. In conclusion, it is technically a solid card on paper but still much worse than how it could have been. Unlike Red Roc, I'd say you'd have to combine this card with a leader or another type of effect that could give you some additional bonus when using it or simply soften up the cost.

Iai Death Lion Song (ST29-017)
I've never been the biggest fan of event counter cards. Even ones that are considered "very good" usually don't seem worthwhile to me. I always weigh these with a +2000 counter. Sure, it obviously won't block as much as even the events that give you +3000 but you have to pay DON!! too for these cards so in my mind they even out or end up being a worse choice even.
In terms of this particular one, it's going to give +4000 to your leader or character for 2 DON!! which the typical standard for these cards. From there, what's going to deem an event like this great or standard is the secondary effect and a trigger effect if any. The trigger effect on this card is pretty standard too and nothing ground breaking. But, I'm not saying it's a bad effect. You'll simply draw 2 and discard 1 so it's a basic consistency and discard outlet effect.
The second effect is situational. You have to be a 2 life or less which is already a limitation you'll need to take into account. If you are, then you can KO an opponent's character with a cost of 3 or less. It's the type of range thats again, perhaps decent or expected for this type of card but nothing to set a power standard in the format. If the range was cost 4 then we would have been talking. Regardless, be it at 3 or 4 if your opponent doesn't have that respective character then you're not getting anything more out of this event. Just the +4000 counter.
If you're at 2 life, there is a good chance you're into the late game, maybe mid game if you're letting all attacks go through. There isn't any guarantee your opponent will have a character of that level making this effect a gamble of a secondary effect. The best application of it would be to KO a small Blocker but any KO could be nice if you do get it. All in all, this card isn't anything special but given the random potential I decided not to be too harsh on it.
