Cards Of The Week #12
Uta (EB03-061)
This Uta artwork is quite adorable; I'd say I like it better than even the full art version. The ST11 Uta leader is also a favorite of mine in terms of her effect so I'm always welcome to good green Film cards. Even so, this Uta secret rare tries to be a bit too balanced if you ask me. It might be a bit ironic, but I'd have rather have her be Dracule Mihawk from OP12. Just give me back more DON!! and be a blocker. That's dependable at least.
With her you only get 1 DON!! back and are able to rest an opponent's DON!! or a cost 4 or less character. Now, the biggest plus of her compared to Mihawk for example is that this is not an on play effect. You can gain these effects every turn if she's still alive on your board. You can make this even more likely with her last effect; by resting a DON!! 1 of your Film characters can become active. A good application is to do this on a blocker that can also hit leaders but you can also just make herself active.
All of her effects are not bad by any means but her main effects could end up being completely void depending on what your opponent is doing. If your opponent is relying on a lot of cheap blockers or counter events then she could be a good annoyance against them. If not though then she's not doing that much besides making herself acive. I think just being a 6 cost character for this package would have made her a lot better considering all the other cost 6 characters with 8000 attack power.

Nami (OP08-106)
This Egghead Nami from OP08 is a pretty sweet full art. If you think it looks cool on screen, the real thing looks even better. The card package though definitely matches the level of OP08; a much older set at this point. Her 5000 power for cost 5 is straight up bad, even being a +1000 counter in hand doesn't make up for it. I guess the idea was that it's a card you'll play for free with the Vegapunk leader but nevertheless it kills a lot of her usability in any other yellow deck. Even in Vegapunk, that leader was weak enough, that her having 6000 power wouldn't magically make that leader broken anyway.
The only thing Nami can do is KO a cost 5 character on summon, but you also have to discard a card from your hand and it needs to be a trigger card too. If you do this when you have 3 or less cards in hand you get to draw a card which essentially covers the annoying cost for this effect. If you get this effect without the draw the exchange is 100 times worse for my taste. Be that as it may, I can still understand the cost. What really weakness this card for me besides the attack power is the range for the draw effect. If it was 5 or 4 cards in hand then it would have been more manageable. At 3 though there's a pretty good chance you'll have to pay for the effect without the draw.
Her whole effect is also a trigger which seems great on paper but isn't as practical as one would hope. You'll have even less control of gaining the effect without missing the draw or could lose out on the effect completely if you don't have another trigger card in your hand to discard. Overall, while I really want this card to be good, I think the negatives are more than the positives. But hey, if you can make it work effectively in egghead decks then kudos to you.
